Slate Viewer guide
Read Markdown tables and CSV/TSV AI reports on Mac
When an AI tool leaves a comparison table as Markdown pipes—or asks you to download CSV/TSV—open it locally in Slate Viewer. Preview for structure, Raw for separators, light edit when a small fix is enough.
Short answer
Slate Viewer opens Markdown, CSV, and TSV on your Mac so AI feature matrices, eval tables, and scraped lists stay readable without importing into a spreadsheet or a full vault. Use Preview to scan tables, Raw to verify pipes or delimiters, and Light Edit for a focused local correction. It does not upload document text, paths, JSON fields, table cells, or clipboard contents by default. Mac App Store only (id 6789441727).
Why AI answers often arrive as tables
Models often emit Markdown pipe tables, or they ask you to download a CSV/TSV export of a comparison, eval, or scraped list. Reading that output in a plain-text editor hides structure; opening it in Numbers or Excel is heavy when you only need to scan one report and leave.
Slate Viewer is built for that middle path: a local, Preview-first reader for the tabular files AI tools leave behind—alongside Markdown, JSON, JSONL/NDJSON, and TXT/LOG in the same app.
Markdown tables in Slate Viewer
- Open the
.mdfile. Use Finder’s Open With menu, or open the file from inside Slate Viewer. - Read Preview first. Scan headings and rendered tables before deciding whether the source needs attention.
- Switch to Raw for pipes. Check alignment, missing cells, or broken separators when a table looks wrong.
- Optional translation. For Markdown narrative around the table, switch English ↔ Simplified Chinese views without rewriting the source file.
For broader Markdown habits (Quick Look, outline, reading position), see Open and read Markdown files on Mac. If the file came from a ChatGPT or Claude export already saved locally, see Open ChatGPT & Claude Markdown exports on Mac.
CSV and TSV from AI tools
Open .csv and .tsv the same local way. Preview helps you scan headers and rows; Raw lets you verify separators, quoting, and whether the first line is really a header.
- Reader-first: built to open and inspect AI result files, not to replace a spreadsheet
- Same app: CSV/TSV sit next to Markdown, JSON, JSONL/NDJSON, and TXT/LOG
- Not Excel/Numbers: no formulas, pivots, charts, or cloud sheets
If a run also left JSONL beside the CSV, stay in the same reader—see Read JSONL and NDJSON on Mac.
Privacy for tabular exports
Slate Viewer opens files on your Mac. It does not upload document text, file paths, JSON key-value content, table cells, or clipboard contents to Slate Viewer servers by default. That matters when an AI export includes competitive matrices, customer lists, or eval scores you do not want re-uploaded.

FAQ
Can Slate Viewer show Markdown tables on Mac?
Yes. Open a Markdown file and use Preview to read tables more clearly than raw pipes; switch to Raw when you need to verify the source.
Does Slate Viewer open CSV and TSV?
Yes. Version 1.4.2 supports CSV and TSV along with Markdown, JSON, JSONL/NDJSON, and TXT/LOG.
Does Slate Viewer render Mermaid diagrams?
Mac App Store What’s New for the 1.4.x line lists Mermaid diagram reading (and YAML). Prefer the live App Store listing for Slate Viewer 1.4.2 over older marketing copy if the site still under-claims this. This guide’s primary job remains Markdown tables plus CSV/TSV.
Will opening a CSV upload my data?
Not by default. Slate Viewer opens files locally and does not upload document text, paths, JSON key-value content, table cells, or clipboard contents to Slate Viewer servers.
Is this a Numbers or Excel replacement?
No. It is a local reader for AI result files, not a spreadsheet or data warehouse.
What macOS version is required?
macOS 26.0 or later on Apple Silicon. Slate Viewer 1.4.2 is sold only on the Mac App Store (id 6789441727).
Is Slate Viewer the same as Unreal Engine SlateViewer?
No. Unreal’s “SlateViewer” is an Unreal Engine UI/test program. Slate Viewer for Mac (slateviewer.com / App Store id 6789441727) is a separate consumer App Store reader for local AI output files. It is also not Technolutions Slate Reader or the jigish/slate window manager.
